Description

Data Protection has recently undergone a fundamental reappraisal with the enactment of the new European Union General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”).

GDPR came into force on 25 May 2018 and businesses who have not planned for it will be severely disadvantaged.

The new legislation is radically different from what was in place. Instead of a notional transparency through registration and consent under the existing legislation; real transparency under the GDPR is achieved through a series of rights given to individuals. Examples of such individual rights are: the right to object to data collection and the right to be forgotten. This is backed up by much more extensive obligations on data controllers to provide information on request and sometimes even before a request is made.

The course has been divided into two parts -

  • The morning session will be run by Will Roebuck and will concentrate on cyber risk and how GDPR will impact all businesses and their cyber security.

  • The afternoon session will be run by Richard Newstead and will focus on the implications of GDPR on employers and business workplace issues generally.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided for delegates, so please advise us if you have dietary requirements.

Will Roebuck is our guest speaker and is a Cyber Business & Risk Professional.

Richard Newstead is an employment and litigation lawyer with extensive experience. He acts for commercial clients throughout the North of England advising on a variety of employment and litigation matters, and is renowned with his clients for his straight forward no nonsense approach.
